The Sybian

There is a machine that was designed, from nothing, around the female orgasm, and it has been in production since 1987, and most people in this country have still never seen one. I have wanted one for years and there is now one in my space in London, which is the short version of why this page exists.

What it actually is

It is a saddle, roughly a foot across and a foot deep, weighing about ten kilos, and you sit astride it with your own weight holding you against it rather than holding it against yourself. Inside the moulded base there are two entirely separate motors. One vibrates, at anything up to six and a half thousand revolutions a minute. The other rotates the top surface, slowly, from nothing up to about a hundred and twenty. They are set independently on a handset on the end of a cable, which is the whole point of the design and the reason it has barely been changed in nearly forty years.

The man who built it, Dave Lampert, studied agriculture and then taught dance, and spent 1983 driving around the American Midwest asking sex therapists and researchers and engineers what was actually missing before he built anything. The first one was working by 1985 and it went on sale in 1987, and the first press it ever got was in Penthouse Forum that December. Why it is not simply a large vibrator

Two things are happening at once and they are doing different jobs. The vibration works on the outside, the rotation works internally at a speed you can watch rather than feel as a buzz, and because you are sitting on it your own weight decides the pressure instead of your arm getting tired. Then say so, because it changes how I would start you and it is not something to be shy about. We would begin gently, with a flat attachment or none at all, one motor at a time, and I would spend the first part of it simply finding out what your body does at each setting before either of us gets ambitious about it. There is no version of this where you are put on a machine at full tilt and left to cope.

Common questions

Do I have to use it with an attachment?

No, and this is the part almost nobody knows, which is a shame because it is the thing that stops most women asking. The attachments come off, and with a flat one on it the machine works entirely externally, which is how a good number of women use it and how I would usually start somebody who has never been near one.

Can men use it?

Yes, and plenty do, sitting or kneeling over it or with it against them rather than astride it in the way it was designed for. It was engineered around the female orgasm and that is genuinely what it is best at, but nothing about it is exclusive and I would not have written this page as though it were.

Do you travel with it?

Sometimes, but it is not a given. Only as much as you want it to be.
